Redwater, TX – Dr. Summer Gibson, current Special Education Coordinator & District Behavior Specialist for Pleasant Grove ISD, has been named Director of Special Education of Central Bowie County Special Education Shared Services for Redwater and Maud ISD. She will begin her new position on July 1.
Gibson has served in the roles of Special Education Coordinator, District Behavior Specialist, Coordinator of Inclusion Services, Special Education Department Chair, Campus Scheduling Committee Representative, and Campus Assistant Testing Coordinator for Pleasant Grove ISD since 2016. She was with Texarkana ISD as a Principal Intern, Campus Leadership Team Member, and Campus Quality Improvement Committee Member from 2014 to 2016. Prior to coming to Texarkana, Gibson was with Frisco ISD, McKinney ISD and Plano ISD.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas Tech University, a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education Administration from Texas Tech University. Gibson’s professional licensure and certifications include Principal Certificate (EC-12), Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (EC-12), Generalist Teacher (K-6), and Special Education Teacher Certificate (EC-12).
“We believe Dr. Gibson is a wonderful choice to serve as Director of Special Education for the Central Bowie County SSA,” said Dr. Kelly Burns, Redwater ISD Superintendent. “Her extensive knowledge and background in Special Education programming will be an asset to the SSA as we grow our program, now in its second year.”
As part of her role as Director of Special Education, Gibson will manage District Section 504 Services and act as District Assistant Testing Coordinator. She will ensure that services for special needs students and individualized education plans/504 service plans are provided to meet the needs of all students along with ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local requirements.
